The Union Cabinet approved a 2% hike in DA, increasing it from 58% to 60% effective from January 1, 2026. This benefits over 50.5 lakh central government employees and pensioners.

📊 AICPI-IW Based Calculation

Central DA is calculated based on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) published monthly by the Labour Bureau. The formula uses a 12-month average.

🏠 HRA Revision

Since DA has crossed the 50% threshold, HRA rates have been revised upward: X City 24%→27%, Y City 16%→18%, Z City 8%→9%. This significantly increases take-home salary.

The current DA rate is 60%, effective from January 1, 2026. The next revision is expected from July 1, 2026 — exact rate will depend on AICPI-IW data.

DA = Basic Pay × DA% ÷ 100. It is revised twice a year based on the 12-month average of AICPI-IW (All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers).

When DA ≥ 50%: X Cities: 27%, Y Cities: 18%, Z Cities: 9%. Previously they were 24%/16%/8%.

At the current rate of increase (2-4% per revision), DA is expected to reach 100% by 2029-2030, depending on inflation trends.
